#144 - Silver Spring

#144 - Silver Spring

Staying in Silver Spring, MD for three nights this week for a meeting. Lovely hotel room - always nice to see after a long drive and knowing this is home away from home for a few days.

#143 - Marine Science Day Part 2

#143 - Marine Science Day Part 2

So after the Paper Parade, we headed to our beach station. Couple of pics from that day.
I gathered sand (the theme for this year's MSD) from a bunch of the reserves and then put them around a map of the reserves. People seemed to like it! :)
Snapped a pic of this cutie on the beach! Somehow captured just one kid - the beach was covered in them.

#142 - Marine Science Day Part 1
Crazy day but here's a few pictures from the day.

Kids getting ready for the parade - trying on their masks and getting all lined up.

Walking in the Paper Parade.

Winner of the Best in Show costume! Soooo cute!

#141 - Masks

Prep day for Marine Science Day. Moved the masks from our spring break camp over to the other building so it'd be ready for the next day. So excited to see the kids with them on in the parade!

#140 - Eastern Shore

#140 - Eastern Shore

Sally and I took a trip to the VIMS Eastern Shore lab to do some scouting for our summer camp and for a meeting. Always fun to have a "professional development day".
Little back story on this picture - so Sally's middle name is Ann. We pass this road on the way down a tiny road in the middle of nowhere, Eastern Shore of Virginia. Near Pungoteague where we kayaked. Decided we should stop and take a picture on the way back b/c really, when will we be back there? So we do - pull into this dirt road, almost get the truck stuck in the middle of nowhere, to which I tell Sally I'm nervous b/c I do not want to have to call people to have them come get us in the middle of nowhere, to which Sally says 'we're in a truck'. Like nothing can happen to us in a truck. It was hilarious - might have had to be there. Other fun phrases from Sally Ann that day "like a 300 pound poker chip" and "those are some BIIIIIIIIIIG rocks".

Saw this car on my way into Green Drinks this week and thought of Rob Russo - one of my closest friend's husband (and close friend himself). He loves orange so thought he'd like it.

#138 - Sea Robin

#138 - Sea Robin

Did a little seining to take more pictures for the field guide. Got a great one of a sea robin and the variety of flatfish that we have in the Bay (besides the windowpane).

#137 - Funny Note

#137 - Funny Note

Summer employee from last year is back - left us this cute note on the table instead of using a piece of paper. Used chalk I think. Just fun to find it when we got back from teaching at one of our schools.

#136 - Yummy

#136 - Yummy

Cute fish dish (which I somehow refrained from buying one for myself) with a delicious crab cake on it! :)

#135 - I Love the Farmers Market

#135 - I Love the Farmer's Market

Picked up my herbs for this year (basil, rosemary, and mint)! Got some flowers too. They looked awesome in my dining room.

#134 - Last look down the hallway

#134 - Last look down the hallway

For the past five years, we've worked with Gloucester schools and this was my last day visiting one of the original schools. Next year we'll start onto a new county, and I'm sure it will be fun but yeah kinda sad to leave the school today. Definitely my favorite school in this project.

#133 - You have no idea

#133 - You have no idea

You have no idea how excited I am about this. Yorktown Onions starting to pop up around town. Pretty soon they'll open up and one of my favorite flowers will be everywhere. Yay!

#131 - I want this

#131 - I want this

Maybe not this exact model - b/c really I want an old wine barrel one - but I want this. A rain barrel with a rain chain to get the water into it since I don't have gutters. Went to a conservation gardening class tonight and got all pumped up about gardening! :)

#130 - The House

#130 - The House

Had to take some pictures of the house for insurance but wanted to show off the awesome "fake rose" bush that I have going on. Lovely blooms this time of year.

#129 - OBX Arboretum

#129 - OBX Arboretum
Went to the Outer Banks Arboretum with Sarah and Jared on Sunday before heading back to the burg. Sarah had wanted to check it out and I had heard about it through master naturalists. Very cool place and perfect for a field trip! Saw this cool carving (sarah actually took the picture) and wanted to show my dad for an idea for his carvings!

Spent the day at the beach - breakfast looking at the ocean, Wright Brothers Memorial, bought some local seafood from Greybeard's in Wanchese, nap time with friends (hahaha we all passed out on the couches), margarita and beach time, lovely sunset in Kitty Hawk, delicious dinner cooked by Sarah and Jared, SNL with Betty White. Great day!

Outer Banks trip this past weekend! Awesome times. And Friday I finally got to go to the Outer Banks Brew Station that I've been wanting to go to for a while. Powered by a windmill and local food/beer + good friends = awesome times. Spent the rest of the night at a dive bar in Kitty Hawk and catching up with Sarah.

This lemongrass beer was delicious!

#123-#126

Honestly, all my pictures for the week are on the work camera from field trips every day. I'll post them later.

**Ok here they are - finally getting around to it.
So this was the week of awesome field trip stuff - especially in the lab.
#123 - Male Skilletfish
Guarding his eggs inside of an oyster shell. Very cool to see.
#124 - Eggs
Then, day 2 we used the same habitat cage, same shells, and found THIS! Skilletfish eggs under the microscope look awesome. Those are the eyes! Could even see the heart beating.
#125 - Third day, new habitat cage - awesome oyster flat worm. A rarity and so cool to see.

#126 - Field shot
Trying to finish up some species for our field guide - a little algae shot!

My mom and I participated in Paddle the Border in the Dismal Swamp this past weekend. Super fun! And so many kayaks. We paddle from NC about 7.5 miles into VA with about 250 other kayakers.

#119 - Way Behind

#119 - Way Behind

This is a place holder until one of our teachers sends me the pictures from the field trip last week. It was so awesome! Can't wait to share.
**Ok here it is - GIANT eel we caught seining! :)

#120 - Date night and stroll through CW

#120 - Date night and stroll through CW

Friday night went out to the Taphouse to enjoy some outside time. Love that place. And then took a little stroll through CW and enjoyed their garden set ups.
